On 6th April 2016, the Civil Aviation Authority announced its decision supporting Birmingham Airport’s Airspace Change Proposal for ‘Option 6’ to become the permanent flight path for aircraft taking off to the south of Birmingham Airport.
This routing was put forward to the CAA as the Airport’s preferred option in May 2015, with findings from a year-long trial to assess the difference in the noise impact between two potential options – Option 5 and Option 6.
We are working with the CAA to receive clarity on the conditions outlined in its decision paper (click on ‘Documentation’) in particular regarding the instructions for the Airport to carry out a further flight path trial of Option 5 for all non-jet aircraft departing to the south. Engagement with the local community on this issue remains a priority for us. We are in regular dialogue through the community airspace forum and will provide updates here when we have them.
